FULLY TRANSFERABLE PRE-86 Colt Model 639 COMMANDO Rifle with Colt “Moderator” Muzzle Device
The Colt Model 639 is an early-generation U.S. military carbine developed during a period of rapid evolution in compact infantry weapon design. Closely related to the early AR-platform lineage, the 639 reflects Colt’s experimentation with lighter, more maneuverable rifles intended for specialized military roles.
This example is fitted with the Colt “Moderator” muzzle device, an early attempt at reducing muzzle flash and perceived report during firing. While not a modern suppressor, the device represents an important step in the historical development of sound and flash mitigation technology for military small arms.
Together, the Model 639 and its associated muzzle device illustrate a transitional era in firearms engineering, bridging early service rifle design with later advancements in compact combat weapon systems.
